R-454B (Opteon™ XL41 / Solstice® 454B / Puron® Advance) is the 2025-ready, low-GWP refrigerant replacing R-410A in new residential and light-commercial AC/heat-pump systems.

Key properties
• 78 % lower GWP than R-410A (466 vs. 2 088) and zero ODP
• Zeotropic blend of 68.9 % R-32 and 31.1 % R-1234yf—charge like any HFC/HFO blend (recover, evacuate, then weigh in full charge)
• ~3 % higher cooling capacity and 5-7 % better seasonal efficiency than R-410A in the same hardware
• A2L “mildly flammable” per ASHRAE 34—requires ignition-risk assessment and leak detectors in mechanical rooms
• Compatible with POE lubricants already used for R-410A; no oil change needed in new equipment

Service requirements
• Uses W21 service port; 1/4" SAE adapters required
• Copper piping must meet specific wall-thickness and brazing procedures

Regulatory
• EPA SNAP-approved for new residential & light-commercial AC/HP starting 2025
